Mimosa – A South African success story with Swiss influence

The boutique Mimosa Winery is located in South Africa’s picturesque Robertson Valley, at the foot of the majestic Langeberg Mountains. What is now synonymous with distinctive wines full of character originally began as a renowned lodge – and over the years has developed into a real treat for wine lovers.

Mimosa is run by Bernhard Hess, a Swiss man with a great passion for cuisine, and his partner. Hess is not only a winemaker, but also a talented and well-known chef. This dual expertise continues to shape the winery to this day: at Mimosa, wine and cuisine are not considered separately, but rather as a harmonious whole.

Robertson Valley – Terroir that gives character

Mimosa’s vines grow on the famous calcareous soils of Robertson Valley. These soils give the wines structure, elegance, and finesse. The focus is consistently on quality rather than quantity. Vinification is carried out using traditional methods, with a particular emphasis on red grape varieties such as Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by selected white wines.

A central element of Mimosa’s philosophy is minimal intervention in the cellar. The aim is to preserve the natural character of the grapes unadulterated and to make the terroir clearly perceptible in the glass. The wines are authentic, precise, and at the same time accessible—wines with soul.

Wine & cuisine – a unique symbiosis

Mimosa became particularly well known for the close connection between its own wines and the award-winning cuisine of Mimosa Lodge. Over the years, this symbiosis has made the winery a unique destination for connoisseurs. The popular Wine & Dine events, where wine and cuisine of the highest standard come together, are an expression of this philosophy—and will continue in the future.

Bernhard Hess – still closely connected to Mimosa wines

Bernhard Hess, the long-standing creator and creative mind behind Mimosa wines, remains closely associated with the project and will continue to be involved in the production of the wines in the future. His Swiss roots, culinary background, and personal standards of enjoyment have shaped Mimosa wines from the very beginning.

At the same time, Bernhard Hess is increasingly focusing his personal attention on his new passion project: his hotel and restaurant Ikhaya in Cape Town, to which he is devoting just as much enthusiasm—without abandoning his connection to Mimosa.

Conclusion
