This renowned winery not only represents outstanding wine quality, but also embodies a deep passion and dedication to the art of winemaking. The enchanting winery is also home to a charming Italian restaurant and fine accommodation.

The story behind Capelands

The idyllic wine estate, nestled in the picturesque countryside of Somerset West, is located in the prestigious Stellenbosch wine region. Capelands Wine is the result of the passion and dedication of Johann Innerhofer and Laura Mauri. Their philosophy combines traditional methods with innovative techniques and art to create wines of unparalleled quality. With over 40 years of experience in the wine industry, Johann Innerhofer, a native of South Tyrol, is a recognized expert in the global wine market. His approach of harvesting grapes early guarantees the freshness and natural acidity of the fruit. This method underlines the quality of his wines by creating a perfect balance between freshness and elegance. Johann Innerhofer prefers a style that emphasizes the elegance of the wine rather than dominant aromas.

It is also interesting to note that each of the beautiful labels is hand-painted by co-owner and wife Laura Mauri, making each one a unique and unmistakable work of art.

Size and location

The winery is unique not only because of its extensive range, but also because of its size and location. The estate’s own Redstone vineyard covers 3 hectares of dry-farmed vines that have matured gracefully over 25 years. This enchanting area is 80% planted with Cabernet Sauvignon vines, while the remaining 20% is planted with Malbec. This vineyard has a special charm, as its soil is a mixture of sand, clay and abundant stones with decomposed granite in the lower part. The site faces the sea, is sheltered from the wind and has a rare microclimate that gives the product an exceptional character.
