Cape Town

Cape Town is not only one of the world’s leading tourism brands, but is also a district for South African viticulture. Together with the districts of Darling, Franschhoek, Paarl, Stellenbosch, Swartland, Tulbagh and Wellington, the area is part of the Coastal Region wine region. The district stretches from Cape Point to Philadelphia (36 km away).

The Cape Town wine region looks back on a long history. The historic Constantia Valley lies on the southern slopes of the Table Mountains and is the origin of Cape wine production. The first vines were planted on the farm of Simon van der Stel. In the 18th century, the dessert wines from this region became famous throughout Europe.

Cape Town benefits from the cool sea breeze from False Bay, as the area receives around 1000 mm of rain per year. This means that no irrigation is necessary. The temperature differences between day and night give the wines a very striking aroma. Excellent white and sweet wines have been produced since 1685.

At Savinis you will find the best producers from Cape Town such as Cape Point Vineyards, D’Aria or Steenberg.

Cape Point Vineyards

Cape Point Vineyards was founded in 1996 by businessman Sybrand van der Spuy. The approximately 22-hectare vineyard is located in Noordhoek in the Cape Town region. Situated directly on the cool Atlantic Ocean, the vines benefit from sufficient moisture and cool westerly winds.

It is the very old, mostly clayey granite soils of Table Mountain that give these wines such minerality and complexity, says winemaker Rinadri Visser. These conditions are particularly suitable for Sauvignon Blanc. But Sémillon, which gives the wines a little more depth and palate fullness, also thrives very well here. Comparatively very small harvests give the wines even more character. The fantastic and almost picturesque location is best viewed from the restaurant. The high-quality wines from this small, friendly winery are a great addition to our range.
