Stellenbosch
The region around the town of Stellenbosch is probably one of the best-known places in South Africa where wine is grown. It is located in the South African province of Western Cape, which borders both the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean.
Over 120 wine estates are located in Stellenbosch. They all benefit from the optimal climatic conditions required for top-quality winegrowing. The climate is Mediterranean, sunny and relatively dry in summer, but with sufficient rainfall in winter. The ocean within sight provides refreshing breezes and sufficient humidity, which are decisive factors for slow and harmonious fruit development, especially in midsummer. In the Bottelary area, which is considered the best red wine area in the region, fertile, stony granite soils ensure the top quality of the wines produced there. The foothills of the Simonsberg are also among the best red wine regions in the country. The summer days are long, there are cool breezes from the sea and the soil is excellent – red granite with a high clay content that retains water well. Some vines are planted on slate, which holds a lot of water in winter but dries out quickly in summer and therefore needs to be irrigated.

Stellenbosch is home to some of the most famous wine estates in South Africa. Traditional producers such as Aaldering, Asara, Babylon’s Peak, Bein, Graceland, Delheim, Kaapzicht, Kanonkop, Kleinood, Knorhoek, Meerlust, Morgenster, Quoin Rock, Van Ryn and Villiera are at home here.

Delaire Graff
The Delaire Graff wine estate is spectacularly nestled in the Helshoogte Pass above Stellenbosch and is one of the most exclusive addresses in South Africa. Originally founded in 1983, the estate was taken over by British diamond magnate Laurence Graff in 2003 and completely redesigned with the highest standards of luxury, architecture, art and viticulture.
The name “Delaire” – French for “from heaven” – says it all: the breathtaking view of the Banghoek Valley, combined with first-class viticulture and award-winning gastronomy, make Delaire Graff a place for connoisseurs with the highest standards.

The vineyards are located on ideally exposed north-eastern slopes at an altitude of up to 500 meters. The soils consist of weathered granite with a high clay content and offer the best conditions for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc. The Mediterranean climate with cool sea breezes from False Bay ensures a long ripening period for the grapes, resulting in wines with excellent freshness and structure.
Under the direction of head oenologist Morne Vrey, Delaire Graff produces wines full of character with depth, elegance and remarkable complexity. The red wines, in particular the Botmaskop – a Bordeaux cuvée – and the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, are highly regarded internationally. The white wines, such as the Chardonnay Banghoek Reserve, also impress with their minerality and finesse.
But Delaire Graff is more than just a winery – it is a total work of art. The combination of art gallery, award-winning restaurant, luxury lodge and spa makes every visit an unforgettable experience.
