Stellenbosch
The region around the town of Stellenbosch is probably one of the best-known places in South Africa where wine is grown. It is located in the South African province of Western Cape, which borders both the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean.
Over 120 wine estates are located in Stellenbosch. They all benefit from the optimal climatic conditions required for top-quality winegrowing. The climate is Mediterranean, sunny and relatively dry in summer, but with sufficient rainfall in winter. The ocean within sight provides refreshing breezes and sufficient humidity, which are decisive factors for slow and harmonious fruit development, especially in midsummer. In the Bottelary area, which is considered the best red wine area in the region, fertile, stony granite soils ensure the top quality of the wines produced there. The foothills of the Simonsberg are also among the best red wine regions in the country. The summer days are long, there are cool breezes from the sea and the soil is excellent – red granite with a high clay content that retains water well. Some vines are planted on slate, which holds a lot of water in winter but dries out quickly in summer and therefore needs to be irrigated.

Stellenbosch is home to some of the most famous wine estates in South Africa. Traditional producers such as Aaldering, Asara, Babylon’s Peak, Bein, Graceland, Delheim, Kaapzicht, Kanonkop, Kleinood, Knorhoek, Meerlust, Morgenster, Quoin Rock, Van Ryn and Villiera are at home here.

Klein Graniet
Klein Graniet is a family-owned vineyard nestled in the foothills of the Simonsberg within the iconic Stellenbosch wine route. Founded by brothers Retief and Stephan du Toit, the estate represents a shared vision to translate French winemaking inspiration—specifically from Pomerol and St. Emilion—into the rich, granite soils of South Africa. Their guiding mantra, “Not more. Better!”, reflects a commitment to quality over quantity.
Their winemaking philosophy centers on a “chain of excellence,” where every step from soil preparation to bottling is handled with meticulous care. By rejecting fixed formulas and instead listening to the unique conditions of each vintage, they produce wines that are authentic, expressive, and possess remarkable aging potential.

Their wine selection is a testament to this dedication, featuring exquisite reds, a classic dry-style Blanc de Noir, and a rare, certified old-vine Sauvignon Blanc. Each bottle reflects the integrity and individuality of the terroir, offering a sophisticated experience for those who value craftsmanship and character.
Whether you are enjoying their robust reds or their nuanced whites, Klein Graniet invites you to slow down and savour something truly special. It is more than just wine; it is a legacy of passion and hard work, rooted in the granite earth and perfected in the cellar.
