This gin contains 12 botanicals typical of the country, which according to the manufacturer all grow on the farm’s own grounds, including lavender and Karoo (from Khoisan = semi-desert). Karoo is a landscape in SA with many endemic (only found here) plants, named after the succulent Karoo, which occurs in various forms (ground cover to tree). Interesting gin in beautiful packaging. Smells very fresh of herbs. Pleasantly mild on the palate. Broad aroma and very long. Very nice quality! In attractive gift packaging.

Breedekloof

The Breedekloof wine region is nestled between majestic mountains and fertile valleys in the west of South Africa, near Worcester. It is considered one of the younger but up-and-coming regions in the country. The winegrowers here benefit from a temperate climate, nutrient-rich soils and a reliable water supply from rivers and mountain springs – ideal conditions for high-quality viticulture.

Breedekloof is particularly known for its fresh, fruity white wines, especially Chenin Blanc, which often impresses with its tropical aromas and lively acidity. Red wines such as Pinotage, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon also mature perfectly under these conditions. Many wineries in the region work sustainably and combine traditional methods with modern cellar technology.

The winemakers from Breedekloof are characterized by their sense of community and innovative spirit. In recent years, the region has made a name for itself through its “Breedekloof Makers” initiative – a group of dedicated winemakers committed to the pursuit of quality and terroir expression.

Six Dogs

For the Six Dogs distillery, the development of gin is about more than just hand-picked botanicals, the special copper still or the technology used to process the delicate flowers into gin. The distillery wants to produce the best gin they can to create something extraordinary.

In a shed that normally housed Charles Bryant’s six dogs and an old copper still, the dream unfolded: to make a gin that was better than the gin produced by the local distillery industry.

Distiller Charles Bryant was supported by his brother Glenn and his friend Luigi Marucchi. They also wanted to create something very special. They had a traditional copper still made to their own specifications for distillation. Their research into molecular distillation revealed that some of the sensitive plant substances are better preserved when distilled under vacuum. What began as research into technology and botany developed into a passion. This is how Six Dogs Karoo Gin was born.
