Aaldering
In 2004, Marianne and Fons Aaldering founded the winery with 24 hectares in the Devon Valley. At that time, the entire vineyard was replanted. In 2012, the new winery, built according to the latest guidelines, was put into operation. Despite the rather new and small winery, Aaldering has since developed into one of the most renowned and best producers.
Abstinence
Abstinence was founded with the aim of representing South Africa’s botanical diversity in non-alcoholic spirits at the highest level. The brand originates from Cape Town and stands for a conscious, modern lifestyle without alcohol – without sacrificing taste, depth or sophistication.
African Oils
In 2009, Sarah and Michael Thompson founded African Oils with a vision: to showcase South Africa’s exceptional natural oils to the world. What started as a small family business near Hermanus has developed into one of the leading producers of high-quality South African vegetable oils.
Allesverloren
Allesverloren is the only estate-registered wine estate in the South African wine-growing region of Swartland where only red wine is grown.
Amarula
A special tree grows in Africa: the marula tree. It is mainly found in the warm regions of sub-equatorial Africa. The average-sized tree can reach a height of up to 15 meters.
Babylon’s Peak
The Babylon’s Peak vineyard is located on the slopes of the Paardeberg between Paarl and Malmesbury in South Africa. The name of the winery is derived from a very high granite peak on the farm, which the locals call “Babylon’s Peak”.
Bain’s
Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky is South Africa’s first and only single grain whisky – named after Andrew Geddes Bain, the famous road builder who constructed the Bainskloof Pass through the spectacular mountains of the Western Cape region in the mid-19th century. Bain’s is produced at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, around an hour from Cape Town – a distillery with over 130 years of history.
Banhoek
Banhoek is a South African spirits producer based in the picturesque Banhoek Valley region near Stellenbosch. The company combines traditional craftsmanship with modern distillation technology to produce high-quality, characterful spirits that reflect the unique character of the region.
Beau Constantia
Beau Constantia is a boutique winery high above the Constantia Valley, with spectacular views of False Bay and the surrounding vineyards. The winery is situated on the steep slopes of the Constantia Nek, where the vineyards are planted at altitudes of up to 350 meters above sea level. This special location produces wines with exceptional freshness, elegance and expressiveness.
Bein
Swiss couple Luca and Ingrid Bein emigrated to South Africa in 1999 and have been living the dream of owning their own winery in Stellenbosch ever since. Stellenbosch is the most important wine-growing region in South Africa. Originally both had their own practice as veterinarians in Switzerland – during a second degree in viticulture and oenology in Stellenbosch, they learned viticulture and bought a small plot of vines in Stellenbosch.
Boplaas
The Boplaas wine estate is located around 450 km from Cape Town, in the province of Calitzdorp. The small picturesque village is surrounded by the Swartberg, Rooiberg and Kleinberg Mountains.
Boschendal
The Boschendal Wine Estate is situated between Simonsberg and the Groot Drakenstein Mountains at the entrance to the Franschhoek Valley. It is one of the oldest wine farms in the New World. The Huguenot Jean Le Long founded it in 1685 and the brothers Pierre, Abraham and Jacques de Villier took over in 1715. They helped the winery to achieve greatness and respect.
Cape Point Vineyards
Cape Point Vineyards was founded in 1996 by businessman Sybrand van der Spuy. The approximately 22-hectare vineyard is located in Noordhoek in the Cape Town region. Situated directly on the cool Atlantic Ocean, the vines benefit from sufficient moisture and cool westerly winds.
Cape Saint Blaize
The small artisanal Cape Saint Blaize Artisanal Distillery is located in Mossel Bay, a small town on the coast of South Africa. The Saint Blaize lighthouse there has been guiding ships safely through the rugged coastal area since 1864. The distillery itself is located in the historic Ochre Barn, a former grain barn with a history dating back to the 18th century.
De Toren
The De Toren wine estate is located in the Stellenbosch wine-growing region. Emil and Sonette den Dulk founded the winery in 1994. The tower (de Toren) gives the estate its name. The elevator in this tower makes it possible to work in the cellar solely by gravity, using pumps.
De Wetshof
The De Wetshof wine estate is located in the Stellenbosch wine-growing region. Danie de Wet, the owner, was and is a true pioneer. The De Wet family came to the Cape as early as 1693 and has been active in the wine industry since the earliest days. It was Danie’s father Oom Johann, however, who founded the wine estate in 1952 in the Robertson Valley on the Breede River, where warm, sunny days are replaced by cool nights.
Delaire Graff
The Delaire Graff wine estate is spectacularly nestled in the Helshoogte Pass above Stellenbosch and is one of the most exclusive addresses in South Africa. Originally founded in 1983, the estate was taken over by British diamond magnate Laurence Graff in 2003 and completely redesigned with the highest standards of luxury, architecture, art and viticulture.
Delheim
This piece of land, situated on the south-western slopes of the Simonsberg, was granted by Governor Simon van der Stel as early as 1699, when it was called De Driesprong. However, the first vines were only planted after several changes of ownership by Hans Hoheisen in 1940. His wife Deli gave the vineyard the new name Deli’s Home in 1949, which later became Delheim.
Francois van Niekerk
Francois van Niekerk is an award-winning South African winemaker and Cellar Master whose expertise bridges forestry and viticulture. Mentored by “Pinotage King” Beyers Truter and refined by experience at Bordeaux’s Château Angélus, he holds an MBA and numerous ABSA Top 10 Pinotage Trophies. In 2019, he launched Francois van Niekerk wines, blending creativity, science, and passion to craft terroir-driven Pinotage.
Funky Ouma
Funky Ouma is a creative South African brand that specializes in handmade seasoning salts and culinary products – with a pinch of humour and a large portion of passion. Founded by a mother-daughter duo on a farm near Stellenbosch, Funky Ouma combines traditional recipes with modern flavor ideas.
Graceland
The Graceland Winery is a family business run by Susan and Paul McNaughton, located in the heart of Stellenbosch. The wines are produced in harmony with nature. Graceland offers modern, high-quality wines that are both rich and elegant. Graceland’s flagship wine is the trendy Strawberry Fields.
Haute Cabrière
The Haute Cabrière wine estate can look back on an extremely long history and tradition in viticulture: The land, situated on the banks of the Franschhoek River, was given to the Huguenot Pierre Jourdan on 22.12.1694. The vineyards face west on the rocky foothills of the Franschhoek Pass – in the heart of South Africa’s Franschhoek wine region. The well-known and up-and-coming wine estate Boschendal is also located there.
Holden Manz
The award-winning boutique wine farm Holden Manz stands for craftsmanship, sustainability and distinctive character wines with depth and finesse. These are wines with attitude, origin and heart.
The outstanding quality is confirmed by countless awards in the “Platter’s Wine Guide”. The wines regularly receive top marks, including the coveted 5-star rating.
Ibhu
The South African brand Ibhu stands for handcrafted spirits with a deep connection to the country’s nature and culture. The name “Ibhu” comes from the Zulu language and means “distillate” – a fitting expression for the essence of what characterizes this brand: the artful combination of local ingredients, traditional recipes and modern distilling skills.
Idun
The winery bears a mythological name: Idun comes from the Norse goddess of eternal life, fertility and apples. Idun brings the hope of new beginnings and the chance to create something that can be appreciated today and for generations to come.
Inverroche
Lorna Scott founded Inverroche in 2011. The distillery is located very close to Still Bay on the Indian Ocean. The soil and rocks consist mainly of limestone. The area in Karoo has a long history: Art objects and tools dating back some 73,000 years have been found in caves.
Kaapzicht
The Kaapzicht Estate is located in Bottelary. It is considered the best red wine region in Stellenbosch. The ideal climate and the fertile, stony granite soils are the basis for the top quality of these wines from South Africa. The flagship of the house, the Steytler Pinotage, is a good example of the quality of these wines: The 1998 vintage not only won the ABSA Pinotage Competition, but also the 2000 Wine Magazine Pinotage Competition.
Kanonkop
The famous Kanonkop wine estate is located on the foothills of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch, one of the best red wine regions in South Africa. The Kanonkop Estate produces the best Pinotage in South Africa – a cross between Cinsault and Pinotage, which was bred in South Africa in 1925. As early as 1959, the Kanonkop Pinotage performed better than Cabernet Sauvignon at the traditional Cape Wine Show, which can perhaps be explained by the advanced age of the vines. Pinotage wines are particularly predestined for the production of storable wines.
Kevin Arnold
Kevin Arnold is considered one of the pioneers of the South African wine scene and has established himself as a master of Shiraz vinification over three decades. After his formative time at Rust en Vrede, he founded his own label in 2004 with a focus on handcrafted, terroir-driven wines from Stellenbosch.
Klein Graniet
Klein Graniet is a family-owned vineyard nestled in the foothills of the Simonsberg within the iconic Stellenbosch wine route. Founded by brothers Retief and Stephan du Toit, the estate represents a shared vision to translate French winemaking inspiration—specifically from Pomerol and St. Emilion—into the rich, granite soils of South Africa. Their guiding mantra, “Not more. Better!”, reflects a commitment to quality over quantity.
Kleinood
Kleinood is a 22-hectare wine estate on the Blaauwklippen Trail, just outside Stellenbosch. This exclusive wine region is home to over 120 wine estates, all of which benefit from the optimal climatic conditions required for viticulture in this category. Well-known and up-and-coming wine estates such as Kanonkop, Kaapzicht and Villiera are also at home here.
Lautus
Lautus is a South African brand that specialises in high-quality non-alcoholic wines. The name ‘Lautus’ comes from Latin and means “pure” or ‘refined’ – a clear reference to the company’s philosophy: authentic wine enjoyment without alcohol, but with character, depth and structure.
Le Lude
Le Lude is located in the cool Franschhoek Valley and is one of South Africa’s leading producers of high-quality sparkling wines made using traditional bottle fermentation. The historic estate was originally founded in the late 17th century and today combines French wine tradition with South African terroir.
Lomond
The Lomond wine estate is located in the Cape Agulhas wine-growing region, the southernmost point of Africa. It was founded in 2000 by David Mostert and is considered a young, up-and-coming winery. Today it is owned by David Mostert and Geoff Mclver. The first pressing of the grapes was carried out in 2019, as the winery was only established then.
Meerlust
The traditional Meerlust Winery is located south of Stellenbosch and is one of South Africa’s most renowned and historic wineries. Founded in 1693, Meerlust is now run by the eighth generation of the Myburgh family. For more than three centuries, the winery has remained true to its philosophy: to produce classic wines with elegance, balance and great ageing potential.
Mimosa
The Mimosa winery is located in the picturesque Robertson Valley, nestled at the foot of the majestic Langeberg Mountains. It is run by the Swiss Bernhard Hess and his partner. Originally known as a renowned lodge, the business has developed into an impressive boutique winery. Bernhard Hess, who is also a talented chef, seamlessly combines his culinary expertise with the art of winemaking.
Morgenster
The historic Morgenster wine estate is located in the Stellenbosch wine-growing region. In 1708, the Huguenot Jacques Malan bought 200 hectares of land when Vergelegen was divided into four parts. He built a manor house and outbuildings. The microclimate, which is created by the cool sea breeze from False Bay and the protective mountains, ensures compact vines and better concentration.
Musgrave
Musgrave is a South African premium brand that stands for exceptional, handcrafted spirits with character. Founded by Simone Musgrave, the company combines African heritage with innovative craftsmanship. Inspired by her grandfather’s passion for exploration, who once traveled the African continent, Musgrave’s products reflect this story of adventure, courage and elegance.
Nico van der Merwe
Nicolas van der Merwe has been making his own wines for around 25 years. He realized his dream in 1999 with the first vintage of Mas Nicolas. He comes from a family of wheat farmers and turned to viticulture during his time at the agricultural college in Elsenburg. After graduating, he went to Germany, where he attended the country’s oldest viticultural school, the LVWO Weinsberg.
Oldenburg
Oldenburg Vineyards is located in the picturesque Banghoek Valley, not far from Stellenbosch, nestled between majestic mountains. The unique combination of altitude, cool breezes, diverse soils and plenty of sunshine creates a microclimate here that is one of the best in South Africa.
Olifantsberg
Olifantsberg lies secluded and untouched in the mountains near Worcester, in the heart of the Breedekloof region. The vineyard is located at around 700 meters above sea level and is characterized by an impressive natural landscape. This altitude ensures cool nights and large temperature differences between day and night – ideal conditions for elegant, structured wines with freshness and depth.
Oude Molen
Oude Molen is one of South Africa’s most renowned brandy producers and has stood for the highest level of craftsmanship and quality for over a century. The company was founded by René Santhagens, a French distiller who brought traditional cognac production to the Cape. His philosophy: brandy should be produced with the same care, dedication and patience as the finest cognac.
Qualito Craft Distillery
In the heart of Limpopo, on the edge of the Kruger National Park, lies the Qualito Craft Distillery – a small, independent distillery that stands for quality, craftsmanship and creativity. Since its inception, the founders, Lizelle and Pierre Retief, have dedicated themselves to producing exceptional spirits that reflect the essence of South Africa.
Rijk’s
Rijk’s Private Wine Cellar is a new, until recently relatively unknown winery from South Africa. It is located in the Breede River Valley – a few kilometers north of Tulbagh and about 80 minutes’ drive north of Cape Town. The winery is surrounded by three mountains: Witzenberg to the east, Winterhoek Mountains to the north and the Obiqua Mountains to the west.
Rozendal
At the foot of the Jonkershoek Mountains in Stellenbosch lies the family-run Rozendal wine estate, which specializes in the production of exceptional vinegars and fermented drinks. Originally a wine estate, the family decided to take a different path in the late 1980s – inspired by old French balsamic recipes.
Saronsberg
The Saronsberg vineyard was founded in 2002 by Nick van Huysteen in the beautiful Tulbagh Valley. It consists of two agricultural parts, which were originally known as Welgegund and Waveren. As Waveren was already known as a brand name, it was decided to use the same name as the vineyards: Saronsberg.
Six Dogs
For the Six Dogs distillery, the development of gin is about more than just hand-picked botanicals, the special copper still or the technology used to process the delicate flowers into gin. The distillery wants to produce the best gin they can to create something extraordinary.
Spice Route
Spice Route is an expression of adventure, craftsmanship and South African terroir. The winery is located in the picturesque Swartland region – north of Cape Town – and was founded in 1997 by Charles Back, the visionary owner of Fairview. He recognized the enormous potential of the dry, slate-rich soils and warm climate of this underrated wine region.
Steenberg
The Steenberg wine estate lies at the foot of Table Mountain and is the oldest documented wine farm in South Africa. Even before the first manor house was built in Constantia, the wine estate was mentioned in a document in 1682.
Thamnus
Thamnus represents a new generation of high-quality wines – inspired by South Africa’s unspoilt nature and characterised by a deep respect for craftsmanship and quality. The name “Thamnus” is derived from Thamnus africana, a symbolic plant of southern Africa known for its resilience and elegance – two characteristics that are also reflected in the wines produced by the winery.
Ukuva
Ukuva Africa was founded in Cape Town in 1996 and is now known for its handmade spice blends, chutneys, sauces and, in particular, its aromatic, African-inspired chili sauces. The name “Ukuva” means “taste” or “perception” in the South African language isiXhosa – and that is exactly what it is all about: taste experiences that go beyond the culinary and tell cultural stories.
Van Ryn
Van Ryn’s is one of the most traditional and renowned distilleries in South Africa. Founded in 1845 on the banks of the Eerste River in Stellenbosch, the company can look back on over 175 years of craftsmanship and experience in brandy production. Today, Van Ryn’s is regarded as the epitome of South African premium brandy and has already received several international awards – including the title of “World’s Best Brandy”.
Villiera
Villiera Wines was bought by Jeff and Simons Grier in 1983 and is located in the Stellenbosch wine-growing region north of the town of the same name. The vineyard covers almost 300 hectares and offers excellent value for money – if not one of the best in South Africa. The wines are convincing in every price category.
Vondeling
The Vondeling wine estate is located in the Paarl wine-growing region, on the slopes of the Paardeberg. The wine farm, which means “foundling”, was founded in 1704 by Oloff Bergh. This marked the beginning of a wine-growing tradition spanning around three centuries. Julian Johnsen acquired the historic vineyard in 2001. He replanted the vineyards and modernized the winery.
Waterford Wines
The Waterford Estate is a jewel in the South African wine landscape – a destination that fascinates wine lovers from all over the world. Nestled in the idyllic vineyards of Stellenbosch, the winery has been in operation since 1998 and is now run by the Ord family.
Wilderer
The Wilderer distillery is located in the Paarl region and has set itself the goal of becoming a leader in the production of Grappa & Eau de Vie. It has already been awarded over 100 international medals.
Withington
With a great deal of passion and decades of experience, David Withington founded his own boutique winery in the coastal region of Darling – an up-and-coming wine region on South Africa’s west coast. After working as a cellar master at renowned houses such as Nederburg and Boschendal, Withington is now fully dedicated to the artisanal production of small-batch wines full of character.
