Bain’s
Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky is South Africa’s first and only single grain whisky – named after Andrew Geddes Bain, the famous road builder who constructed the Bainskloof Pass through the spectacular mountains of the Western Cape region in the mid-19th century. Bain’s is produced at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, around an hour from Cape Town – a distillery with over 130 years of history.
In 2009, Bain’s was launched by Master Distiller Andy Watts – a pioneer of South African whisky whose passion for quality and innovation has been a major influence on the product. The whisky is made from South African maize, which gives it its unmistakable softness and sweetness.

A special feature of Bain’s is the double maturation in first-fill bourbon casks: first for three years in a first cask, then the whisky is transferred to a second bourbon cask and matured there for a further two years. This process gives it a particularly round, vanilla-caramel aroma with notes of tropical fruit, toffee, honey and oak.
Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky has won several international awards – including “World’s Best Grain Whisky” at the World Whiskies Awards – and is an excellent ambassador for the up-and-coming South African whisky scene.
