Capelands

The Capelands wine estate is idyllically situated between Somerset West and Stellenbosch, nestled in the picturesque hilly landscape overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The boutique winery combines Swiss precision with South African passion for quality and terroir. Capelands was founded by a Swiss couple who fell in love with the scenic beauty and Mediterranean climate of the Cape region.

At an altitude of around 300 meters, classic Bordeaux grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc thrive here. The proximity to the sea ensures cool evening breezes, which allow the grapes to ripen slowly and thus achieve a particularly balanced aroma profile. The soils, consisting of weathered granite and clay, contribute to the minerality and structure of the wines.

Production at Capelands is strongly quality-oriented. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and in small yields. In the cellar, the wines are matured with great care and without artificial intervention. The red wines are traditionally matured in French barriques – with a focus on elegance, depth and longevity. The result is expressive wines full of character with a European style and South African terroir expression.

In addition to viticulture, Capelands is also home to a charming country house with its own restaurant – a place that combines enjoyment, hospitality and relaxation close to nature. Visitors can taste wines and enjoy culinary menus while taking in the view of the vineyards and ocean.
