D’Aria
D’Aria is located in Durbanville, just north between Cape Town and Stellenbosch. The wine estate was founded in 2008 and comprises the two farms Doordekraal and Springfield. The governor defined this area as farmland as early as 1698.
The vineyard is located at the back of the Tygerberg. The distance to the cooling Atlantic Ocean is only about 10 kilometers. The sea breeze cools the grapes on warm summer days. The vineyards mainly face north and east.
The Durbanville workers’ association Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) is also involved in this winery. It is thanks to winemaker Rudi von Waltsleben that D’Aria has produced outstanding wines in recent years, which have received the highest praise at the leading wine awards.
