De Morgenzon

The DeMorgenzon wine estate is located in the Stellenbosch wine region. Although all the wine estates in the Western Cape are beautiful, we think this one is one of the most exceptional. The estate takes its name from “the morning sun”, as it is the first part of the valley to see the sun in the morning. The wine farm stretches from 200 meters to almost 400 meters.

DeMorgenzon looks back on a long history. In 1679, Simon van der Stel (the Dutch governor) founded Stellenbosch. The current wine farm was originally part of Uiterwyk, one of the oldest farms in South Africa.

Wendy and Hylton Appelbaum bought the land in 2003 and have since transformed it into a 91-hectare wine farm. In spring, very special wildflowers thrive among the vines. The Applebaums are convinced that an ecologically sensitive and biologically diverse environment leads to better grapes. In this way, the beauty of the gardens can be captured in every bottle of wine.
