La Couronne
The La Couronne (French for “The Crown”) wine estate was founded over 300 years ago by the Huguenots, who brought the French wine and food culture with them from Europe. La Couronne is the name of the famous French warship that brought the settlers to the Cape of Good Hope in 1688.
The wine estate is located in the Franschhoek wine-growing region, which is also home to well-known and up-and-coming wine estates such as Boekenhoutskloof, Boschendal and Haute-Cabrière. La Couronne is located at the foothills of the majestic Franschhoek Mountains – the view is beautiful and picturesque!
The wines of La Couronne are characterized by the combination of tradition and modern technology. In 2011, the current owner Francois Smith took over the farm and Henk Swart has been the winemaker since 2016.
