Paarl
The traditional Paarl wine region is located around 60 kilometers north-east of Cape Town and is one of the oldest and most important wine-growing regions in South Africa. Surrounded by majestic granite mountains, after which the region is named (“Paarl” means “pearl”), the vineyards benefit from a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and cool nights as well as well-drained granite and slate soils.
Paarl stands for diversity: both red and white wines thrive here. The region is particularly well known for powerful red wines from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage as well as elegant white wines from Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. Many of the wines from Paarl are characterized by depth, structure and ageing potential.

In addition to large historic wine estates, smaller, innovative businesses have also established themselves in recent years, focusing on sustainable cultivation and terroir-driven wines. Paarl was also the seat of the former “Wine and Spirit Board” and played a central role in the development of the South African wine industry.
At Savinis, you will find renowned producers from Paarl such as Fairview, Spice Route and Glen Carlou – wineries that masterfully combine tradition and innovation. Particularly noteworthy are their powerful red wines with an international format as well as characterful white wines that authentically reflect Paarl’s terroir.
