Spioenkop
Spioenkop is situated high above the Tugela River in the KwaZulu-Natal region and is one of the most exceptional wine estates in South Africa. The winery is located in the immediate vicinity of the historic Spioenkop Hill and benefits from its altitude of around 450 to 600 meters above sea level – a rarity in South African viticulture.
The vines are located at an altitude of at least 200 meters above sea level. The crater-like mountains protect the valley from stormy weather. But the proximity to the sea and the elevated location also have a cooling effect on the area.

Spioenkop comprises 46 hectares of land, of which 12 hectares are used for growing vines. According to Koen, the most important thing is that the vines are in balance. This allows wines with great finesse and identity, such as Chenin Blanc or Rieslings, to be produced.
