Western Cape
The Western Cape is the most important wine region in South Africa and comprises most of the country’s recognized wine-growing areas, including well-known regions such as Stellenbosch, Paarl, Swartland, Walker Bay, Robertson and Constantia. The region benefits from a remarkable geographical diversity – from coastal locations with cool sea breezes to mountainous inland valleys with intense sunshine. This diversity enables the cultivation of a wide range of grape varieties and the production of a variety of wine styles.
The climate in the Western Cape is predominantly Mediterranean with dry summers and wet winters. The amount of rainfall varies greatly depending on the microclimate, but averages around 600-1,000 mm annually. The soils range from weathered granite to slate and calcareous clay soils – perfect conditions for complex, terroir-driven wines.

The Western Cape stands for top South African wines: elegant Chenin Blancs, expressive Sauvignon Blancs, complex Bordeaux and Rhône cuvées as well as Pinotage, South Africa’s unique grape variety. The region is known for its innovative strength, sustainability in viticulture and a winegrowing scene that combines traditional methods with modern approaches.
At Savinis you will find selected top wine estates from the Western Cape such as Meerlust in Stellenbosch, Boekenhoutskloof in Franschhoek, Alheit Vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and Mullineux in Swartland – all pioneers of modern South African viticulture with an international reputation.
